John Stamos has admitted that he was actually rejected from joining the Church of Scientology after they reportedly tried to recruit him as a teenager.

The 61-year-old began his career in the 1980s and has been a staple of the spotlight ever since, thanks to roles in Full House, General Hospital, ER. Thieves, Scream Queens and You Again?

Speaking in a new podcast, he opened up about his early years, revealing that he met a ‘hot girl’ at an acting class who encouraged him to go to a ‘meeting’.

Appearing on Friend in High Places, he told host Matt Friend: ‘They did… I was in an acting class and there was a hot girl. She said, “we’re all meeting at this address on Hollywood Boulevard, you should come after.”

‘I was working at my dad’s restaurant at the time and I said, “Dad, I’ve got to go.” So, I went and it was the Scientology building. I was 16, maybe 17.

‘They brought me in there and there was this guy, they said, “Come over here” and they had this E-Meter where you’re holding these two cans. I started [joking around]. I was doing a Peabody and Sherman [impression] and they didn’t like that.

‘I was just f**king around so much, they said, “Get out, get going.” They just kicked me out.’

Matt joked that John was actually ‘too annoying’ to join the controversial group, to which the actor jokingly agreed.

‘That’s pretty bad,’ he added. ‘I must have been terrible.’

Although John was declined by the Church, there are many other famous faces that are Scientologists, including Tom Cruise, Elisabeth Moss and John Travolta.

King of Queens star Leah Remini was a former member of Scientology but left in 2013, and filed legal action against leader David Miscavige for ‘harassment, surveillance and defamation’ last year.

This isn’t the first time that John has spoken publicly about his very, very brief relationship with Scientology, as he previously shared his account in his If You Would Have Told Me memoir, released last year.

According to Us Weekly, he recounted the situation in the pages, penning: ‘I’m walking to my car and Mia runs out and hands me my workbooks.

‘”Hey, you forgot these.” She adds an extra book, the size of a brick, to my stack. “Start with this one,” she says, smiling. “I think it will open your eyes to some amazing things.”’

He recalled opening the book to find a passage about ‘controlling your reactionary mind, controlling energy, controlling space and controlling time’.

‘[One man] begins to question me about committing crimes, asks if I have negative thoughts about Scientology or [founder] L. Ron Hubbard and probes into some strange sex inquiries,’ he added of his visit to the Church.

‘The Wayback Machine needle jumps in the corner, and Mia looks disappointed. Apparently, I’m not Scientology material. Darn it.’
