Nine children have been rushed to hospital following a chemical leak at a leisure centre. The youngsters were enjoying a swim at the Everyone Active in Vale Farm, Wembley, when noxious fumes are said to have been released and emergency services were contacted.

A large number of mercy crews pictured outside the facility, which has now been cordoned off by cops. The Metropolitan Police said officers responded to reports of a chlorine leak at the site on Watford Road, reports the Mirror.

The London Ambulance Service were also called around the same time and sent ambulance crews, incident reponse officers and members of their hazardous area response team (HART). Fire engines were also at the scene.

Nine children and two adults were found to be in need of medical attention and rushed them to hospital where they’re currently being treated. There has been no update as to their conditions at this stage.

Everyone Active told This is Local London that the pool was still shut just after 4pm, but the rest of the centre’s facilities had reopened.

A spokesperson for Met Police told Harrow Online: “Police were called at 13:40hrs on Thursday, 29 August to reports of a chlorine leak at a pool in Watford Road, Wembley.

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade are in attendance. The leisure centre has been evacuated as a precaution and road closures are in place.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.34pm today (29 August) to reports of a chlorine leak on Watford Road, Wembley. We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, incident response officers and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We treated nine children and two adults at the scene before taking them all to hospital.”

On its website, Vale Farm Sports Centre said: “Please be aware that Vale Farm Sports Centre is closed due to unforeseen circumstances.”
