ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A man is facing charges including first-degree murder after a June shooting in Roanoke that left one man dead. WDBJ7 obtained search warrants that reveal the events allegedly leading to the incident.

Kyriq Seabrooks was indicted in July on charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a violent felon, according to Roanoke Circuit Court.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, officers responded to a crash in the 2400 block of Cornell Drive NW around 7:30 p.m. on June 13. A car was found to have crashed into a shed, with the driver unconscious and suffering from a critical gunshot wound.

Police say the man, later identified as 21-year-old Dontae R. Muse, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Search warrants say Seabrooks had texted Muse earlier that day asking to buy marijuana and the two agreed to meet at 7 p.m. in Huff Lane Park.

However, Seabrooks had allegedly purchased marijuana from another person earlier in the day, with Walmart security camera footage capturing the transaction, search warrants show.

Seabrooks was allegedly driving a rental car, with a GPS tracing him to Huff Lane Park before quickly fleeing the scene. Witness statements allege the shooting took place in the parking spaces along Huff Lane, search warrants add.

Police executed a search warrant for Seabrooks’ residence and security footage showed him exiting the vehicle with two men. The two were determined to live at the same address as Seabrooks, confirmed by a group home employee.

In text messages sent between the two men, they planned to meet later that day with one man suggesting the two bring ski masks.

“…We gotta take em down today,” one of the men replied, according to search warrants.

The identities of the two men acquainted with Seabrooks will not be released since they have not been formally charged.

Seabrooks was initially charged with second-degree murder during his arrest in June, with prosecutors later upping the charge to first-degree murder during his arraignment, according to court records.

Seabrooks will stand trial at the Roanoke City Circuit Court in late October.
