COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) – A missing pup who was last seen by his family two years ago is finally being reunited with his family.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region shared the “happy tail” about how the Colorado community reunited a missing pup with his family over two years later.

Bear, a Colorado family’s dog, was with a pet sitter in April 2022 when he got loose. The humane society said the family reported Bear as missing and looked everywhere but couldn’t find him.

The family had to move from Colorado Springs to New York for military reasons, so they had to make a heartbreaking decision – to move across the country without Bear.

The humane society said they were working with a group of volunteers when Animal Law Enforcement was alerted to a Bear sighting this July.

After further research, they learned the missing dog was seen in the same place he went missing two years earlier.

The group of volunteers went into action.

The humane society recovered Bear’s “missing” poster from 2022, set up feeding stations and placed trail cameras around the area to find Bear.

And on Aug. 18, Bear was finally caught!

The humane society confirmed the stray dog was, in fact, Bear and then called the family letting them know their long-lost dog was finally found.

Bear’s family was overjoyed to learn their beloved pet was found, and after going to the groomers, receiving shots and getting a clean bill of health, Bear was ready to be reunited with his family.

This Sunday, Bear will be making the trip from Colorado to New York to finally be reunited with his family. The humane society said community members in Colorado fully paid for Bear’s trip.

“This story touches our hearts in a way that you probably couldn’t imagine,” the humane society said. “Someone told us. We told these volunteers., and out of the kindness of their hearts, they worked their butts off for Bear. It all paid off in the end because Bear is finally going to see his people again!”
