BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A Fayetteville man was sentenced for a felony crime stemming from an October 2023 incident. This information comes to WVVA from a press release from the Fayette County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

According to the release, 41-year-old Joshua L. Pittman was sentenced to one-to-five years in prison for the felony crime of fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference. After pleading guilty on July 12, Pittman has to serve at least one year in prison before being eligible for parole.

The incident happened on October 14, 2023, when law enforcement saw a red motorcycle run a stop sign at the intersection of Terry Avenue and Berry Street in Oak Hill. When the officer tried to pull over the motorcycle, the driver sped up and fled from police, according to the release. The motorcycle was eventually found behind a house in Cunard.

After speaking with people in the house, Pittman was identified as the driver, according to the release.

Pittman was sentenced by Circuit Judge Paul M. Blake Jr., and the crime was investigated by the Oak Hill Police Department.
