NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – A litter of kittens was saved just in time from a trash compactor in a rural county south of Nashville.

Volunteers from Lucky’s Cat House, a nonprofit rescue, say four kittens were pulled from the dump right before the machine ran.

The animal rescue team said someone had thrown the kittens into the dump and were covered in filth.

Brandy Fox, the director at Lucky’s Cat House, said she doesn’t understand how someone could put animals in harm’s way.

“There are some cruel people in this world. I hate to see these types of cases,” Fox said.

But despite their near-death experience, the 4-week-old kittens are healthy.

The team at Lucky’s Cat House has cleaned up and fed the kittens. They say the felines will be available for adoption in about two months.

Volunteers said they will also continue to help find forever homes for all of their rescues.
