CLERMONT, Fla. (Gray News) – A man in Florida is accused of stealing 129 gallons of cooking oil from a restaurant, according to police.
Police in Clermont said the suspect was spotted taking the oil from a Beef ‘O’ Brady’s on Aug. 21 by a restaurant manager.
When the manager confronted the suspect, the suspect reportedly took off and fled in a beat up white work van.
Police located the suspect vehicle during a traffic stop. When asked about the oil kept in the vehicle, the suspect reportedly told officers he was “just driving around collecting oil to take to a buyer.”
Police said the inside of the van was set up with equipment that made it look like it may be part of a criminal enterprise. A pair of bolt cutters was also found near the front of the cab.
Officials said the amount of oil taken from the restaurant was 129 gallons with a value of $436.02.
The unnamed suspect was arrested and taken to a county jail.
He was charged with burglary with intent to commit theft, possession of burglary tools, traveling across county lines to commit crimes and driving without a license.
