GRAFTON, W.Va (WDTV) – A Thornton woman was arrested and charged with child neglect after doing drugs at numerous places in Taylor County while her 5-year-old son was with her.

Police found Amy Johnson, 42, in the grassy area beside Gump’s IGA with no shoes and bright pink markings on her face and the child with one shoe and dirt all over him, according to the Grafton Police Department.

When police approached her, Johnson told them she thought “they gave her heroin instead of meth.” She was erratic, restless, hyperactive and seemed to be hallucinating, court documents say.

Johnson told police she and the child had stayed at two houses over the past two days and that one home had drugs spread all over the table.

The child told police they had walked from Thornton to Grafton on the railroad tracks, which police said is about 6.2 miles. He also said the injuries on his arm were due to a “big black dog” biting him.

Johnson said she want to go to drug rehabilitation and told police she does drugs in front of her son.

Child Protective Services took the child, police said.

Johnson is charged with child neglect creating risk of serious bodily injury and is currently in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail with bond set at $50,000.
