Former US president Donald Trump has issued a scathing one-word criticism of his opponent Kamala Harris after she sat down for her first major interview since becoming the Democrat’s presidential nominee.

Harris was interviewed by CNN alongside her running mate, Tim Walz, in a pre-recorded piece filmed in Savannah, Georgia earlier on Thursday.

She said her highest priority if she wins the presidency would be to ‘support and strengthen the middle class’ – but her opponent only had one word in response to her claims.

Trump shared a single word – ‘BORING!!!’ – on his social media app Truth Social, making his opinions on her performance very clear.

In the lead-up to the interview, Harris was mocked by Republicans for asking Walz to take part and act as her ‘babysitter’, although he only answered a few questions throughout the interview.

She has been criticised for failing to take part in an on-the-record interview since she started running for president.

Harris was also questioned about her shifts on policy issues such as fracking and immigration, but she insisted that her ‘values had not changed’.

Asked about fracking, she said she made clear in the 2020 debate that she no longer supports a ban, and that as president she would not ban fracking.

She claimed to take the climate crisis seriously but believes ‘we can increase a thriving clean energy economy without banning fracking’.

On immigration, Harris was asked if she still believes the border should be decriminalised. She said laws should be followed and enforced on immigration and noted that she is the only candidate in the race who has prosecuted transnational criminal organizations.

Harris said she would support the middle class by increasing tax credit, curtailing price gouging and increasing access to affordable housing.

But she quickly brushed off a question about Trump’s comments claiming she ‘happened to turn Black’ in recent years, describing the attack as the ‘same old, tired playbook’.

It’s less than two weeks until the first debate between Harris and Trump, which is planned for September 10 on ABC.
