Hickman was arrested by detectives with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office on 1st-gress murder charges.(wsaz)

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A woman has been charged in connection with the suspicious death of a 70-year-old man, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section.

Richard Crowder, 70, was found dead inside his Mink Shoals home on February 13, 2024.

The investigation into Crowder’s death began when a healthcare worker called authorities to conduct a well-being check on Crowder and the healthcare worker reported that Crowder did not come to the door.

Crowder suffered from a gunshot wound.

Detectives say Brittany Hickman was the last person seen with the victim and was located nearby the day Crowder’s body was found.

Detectives say DNA and other forensic evidence confirmed that Hickman was involved in Crowder’s death.

Hickman was arrested by detectives with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office on 1st-gress murder charges.

She will be arraigned in Magistrate Court on Friday.
