A New Jersey man has been charged with fatally stabbing his younger brother at a family residence in Willingboro Township, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.
Carl Agyemang, 26, is charged with first-degree murder and weapon offenses in the death of 23-year-old Floyd Agyemang.
The stabbing followed an argument at a family home late last week, Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Willingboro Township Acting Public Safety Director Ian Bucs said in a joint statement.
Police responded to a report of a stabbing at a home on Hepburn Lane shortly after 11 a.m. on Aug. 24. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim with a stab wound to the chest.
The younger Agyemang was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in nearby Camden for treatment.
He was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m., officials said. The Burlington County medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.
According to police, the suspect fled on foot but was arrested “a short time later.” He was found with a knife believed to have been used in the fatal stabbing.
Carl Agyemang is being held at Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly pending a detention hearing. Prosecutors said the case would be brought to a grand jury for possible indictment.
Willingboro Township is located in the southern portion of New Jersey, in the heart of the Delaware Valley, just outside Philadelphia.
