Slipknot’s Corey Taylor confesses he hit a ‘real dark point’ earlier this year, prompting the 00s icons to overhaul everything.

The metal stars have had a tough year, with bandmate Sid Wilson sharing last month that his face ‘basically melted’ after suffering ‘serious burns’ in an ‘explosion’.

While Sid, 47, recovers — with partner Kelly Osbourne by his side — frontman Corey has revealed how he has ‘reinvested’ his life after music ‘nearly killed him’.

In January, the 50-year-old singer, also known as Number 8, cancelled his North American solo tour due to increasing mental health concerns.

At the time he said his ‘mental and physical health [had] been breaking down’ and had become unhealthy for himself and his family.

Corey has now shared some background around that ‘dark point’, although he has been reluctant to divulge details regarding his struggles.

‘I found that my pursuit of work and all things ego was killing me,’ the Wait and Bleed singer revealed, before adding: ‘And nearly killed me.’

Corey — who is also the lead singer of Stone Sour — has previously shared how his battle with PTSD has impacted his personal life and career.

During his time in the spotlight, having joined Slipknot in 1997, the singer has had a history of alcoholism and suicidal depression.

He has been sober since 2010, a year after the death of Slipknot founder and guitarist Paul Gray from an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl.

In the interview with Alternative Press, Corey continued: ‘So I’ve reinvested my life to the point [where] I’m only going to work so much. I’ll never be gone from home for more than two-and-a-half weeks.

‘I’m putting importance back on the things I really value. That is the greatest gift I could give myself and my family.’

Slipknot has been around for 25 years and is celebrating with a huge world tour this year, including dates in the UK.

While the band has kept going, only Shawn Crahan — nicknamed ‘Clown’ — remains from the original lineup; Corey joined two years after formation.

Slipknot also includes guitarists Mick Thomson and Jim Root, DJ Sid, bassist Alessandro Venturella, percussionist Michael Pfaff and drummer Eloy Casagrande who joined this year.

Eloy replaced Jay Weinberg, who had in turn taken over from Joey Jordison in 2013 after he left the band over personal and creative differences.

Currently, in the lineup, there is an unknown musician who plays a variety of instruments including keyboards and percussion.

It’s unknown currently how Sid’s injuries will impact the scheduled tour dates later this year but he is said to be recovering well.
