Firefighters are battling a blaze in a high rise block of flats in Glasgow. Smoke and flames were pictured coming from a window in the north of the city this afternoon.

The blaze took hold at the fifteen-storey building in Springburn. Pictures from the scene show flames having completely consumed a window of a property on the ninth floor, Glasgow Live reports.

Thick grey smoke billowed into the sky above the property, in the city’s Carron Street, after the fire was sparked around 2.30pm.

It’s believed six fire appliances and a height vehicle were deployed, but it is not yet known if anyone has been injured as a result of the fire.

Images from the scene show multiple fire appliances around the base of the structure with fire damage visible.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters attended. A spokesperson said: “We received a call at 14.34. Crews are currently in attendance.”
