Grayson’s dad Dustin Manning reflected on his son’s journey, recalling the early days in the ICU.

“I remember day 2 or 3 in the ICU, before he woke up telling him in his ear it’s going to be the biggest fight he has ever had in his life, and so far he is kicking [it]!!” he wrote. “Still a long road to go, but soon he will be out on the paintball field.”

Since the accident, Grayson has undergone multiple surgeries to address brain swelling, facial and skull injuries, and to preserve the function in his eye. He was also fitted with a Halo device to stabilize his neck and head movements.

By early July, he had been moved out of the ICU and was breathing on his own.
