KANAWAHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A family lost their home and pets Saturday after a heavy fire in South Charleston.

South Charleston Fire Chief Virgil White said everyone made it out and there are no injuries. The fire chief says the pets in the home did not make it out.

A neighbor who wishes to remain anonymous said they are relieved everyone made it out okay.

“Thankfully they did say that everyone was out, so that’s definitely a relief,” the neighbor said.

The neighbor described the chaotic scene, as they watched from their house.

“Yeah just the front you know burnt and just the windows like I said you could hear them getting busted out during the fire,” the neighbor said.

The fire happened just before 6 a.m.

Chief White said the South Charleston Police Department helped get the family of seven off the property safely.

It took 45 minutes for the fire to be brought under control.

The American Red Cross is helping the family.

The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is ongoing.

South Charleston Fire Department, South Charleston Police Department, Dunbar Fire Department, Kanawha County Emergency Management, and Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance all responded.
