Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie have been caught ignoring one another on camera during a seemingly uncomfortable moment at the late Queen’s funeral in 2022, with the clip now doing the rounds on social media.
The awkward footage shows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex waiting for their vehicle after the service, standing somewhat awkwardly alongside Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, who are standing beside other members of the Royal Family.
In a silent exchange, Eugenie and Meghan appear to meet each other’s eyes but both quickly divert their gazes, exchanging no words. Meanwhile, Prince Harry appears to seek some form of acknowledgment from his relatives, looking visibly distressed by the situation, the Express reports.
The clip concludes with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex leaving the service, with Harry exhaling sharply as he gets into the car. Uploaded to Facebook by Maria Liona, the video is captioned “realising nobody talks to you because nobody trusts you”.
Social media users have commented on the scene, with one stating: “He [Harry] can look miserable all he wants. He made his bed picking the narcissist over his family, now he can lie in it.”
Another remarked: “These two can’t be trusted” while a third added: “Once you lose trust it is very hard to get it back.”
Eugenie and Jack have been part of Prince Harry and Meghan’s inner circle since the early days of their romance. The Duchess of Sussex reminisced on Ellen DeGeneres’ chat show in 2021 about a memorable Halloween bash back in 2016, which they attended in secrecy.
Meghan recalled: “The four of us snuck out in Halloween costumes to just have one fun night on the town before it was out in the world that we were a couple.”
Harry’s autobiography ‘Spare’ is dotted with references to Princess Eugenie and Jack, and they also feature in candid snaps and footage in the Netflix documentary ‘Harry and Meghan’, some from the very start of the Sussexes’ love story.
Yet, the chilly atmosphere observed between the couples at the late Queen’s funeral hinted at a possible rift.
In a more recent turn of events, during King Charles’ coronation, Prince Harry was seen seated with Princess Eugenie and Jack, engaging in light-hearted conversation throughout the ceremony, despite Meghan’s absence. This has led some to speculate that the bond between the two cousins might be warming up again.
