Peace lily houseplants, with their striking foliage and generous white blooms, are a hit with those who love to bring the outdoors inside. These plants, scientifically known as Spathiphyllum, are lauded for their ease of care and ability to flourish indoors.

Provided they’re given proper attention and conditions, peace lilies can grace your home with flowers throughout the year, each lasting for a considerable period.

For peace lilies to truly thrive and showcase their flowering prowess, finding the perfect spot is crucial, as light exposure is essential for their development.

A recent query was spotted on the Gardening UK Facebook page, where Joanne Millward was in search of tips for her newly acquired peace lily.

She posted: “Fell in love with the peace lily after seeing some posts on them. Sent it to my husband and he got me one. I love it.”, reports the Express.

She added: “Now I’m just after some advice on how to look after it and the best place to sit her.”

The group’s members were unanimous in their guidance: peace lilies need plenty of light but must avoid direct sun rays.

Sue Merry suggested: “Lots of light but not direct sunlight, only water when soil becomes dryish. I water mine once a week. Water from the bottom, not the top.”

Helen Davies pointed out the plant’s thirstiness: “Peace lilies are very thirsty. Water as soon as you see the leaves lower, but ideally not droop as that creates stress for the plant.”

She explained: “They like a spot that is just back from very sunny. However, the best spot is one where they flower, for me it’s in the hallway by the front door.”

Coral Smith added to the conversation saying: “Mine is years old and I keep it just inside the front door which is patterned glass.”

“We have four flowers at the moment but it never stops flowering in this spot.”

For those thinking of positioning their peace lilies by the main entrance, take into account that these plants are sensitive to cold drafts.

Whilst peace lilies can survive in lower light conditions, they are unlikely to produce many flowers, if any.

Thriving in bright, indirect sunlight that is filtered, it’s also important to avoid placing them in direct sunlight, as it can cause damage to their leaves.
