Fallout 76 servers are down for a major update today and gamers won’t be able to get back on for a long while.

Bethesda is taking the game’s servers down to roll out to Milepost Zero update. Milepost Zero – Country Road is introducing a handful of new features but the advertised Caravan Outposts, which are the main focus of the update, have been delayed, with not the clearest messaging around it.

Gamers can however look forward to the Legendary crafting system overhaul, that sees Legendary Cores ditched for the brand new Legendary Particles, reports the Mirror.

There’s no date as to when we can actually play the content promised for the Fallout 76 Milepost Zero update beyond ‘later this month’ but the developer has assured players that the update is coming today nevertheless, with Caravans trundling into Skyline Valley a few weeks behind it.

As well as the Caravan Outpost content, the Halloween event Mischief Night is also being delayed but we’ll hopefully see it pull up alongside the caravans in a few weeks. The full patch notes are live and we have the Fallout server status schedule for today’s update below.

Fallout 76 server status schedule

Fallout 76 servers are going offline for the Milepost Zero update at 3pm BST / 10am EDT / 7am PDT today, Tuesday, September 3. As per the Reddit post from Bethesda community manager, Richard Stanford, the update will require a “full redownload of the entire game due to a repackaging effort which will make the overall game size smaller.”

In a post on the Bethesda Games Studios Discord server, Stanford clarified that you don’t need to uninstall the game to get the Fallout 76 Milepost Zero update. “You will notice a large update that you will have to download. The platform you’re playing on will do the rest.”

Fallout servers are likely to be back onlineat9pm BST / 4pm EDT / 1pm PDT , according to the Bethesda.net Status Portal website. The site adheres to UTC time and has both the Fallout 76 server maintenance start time and when it’s scheduled until, so if this is accurate, today’s downtime was a not too shabby four hours – just an hour longer than the typical three.

Bethesda has shared file sizes for PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles in the full patch notes:

  • PC (Steam): 82.07 GB
  • PC (Microsoft Store): 96.53 GB
  • Xbox: 96.6 GB
  • PlayStation: 92.67 GB

And remember this is for the whole game so don’t be alarmed!
