BREMEN, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) – The family of a high school quarterback from Georgia is asking for prayers as he recovers from a severe spinal injury he suffered during a football game.

Bremen High School senior quarterback Carson Kimball was looking forward to playing against the Bowdon Red Devils under the Friday night lights. The ambitious 18-year-old is known on campus for his work ethic and determination, WANF reports.

“This is the rivalry,” Bremen High School Principal Tim Huff said. “I haven’t ever met a kid as talented as he is but is so humble. He does nothing to draw attention to himself. He just works.”

During Friday’s game, the football stadium went silent when the star quarterback took a hit and didn’t get up. He was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Dr. Jason Mount is a close family friend and emergency room doctor. He spent time with Carson Kimball in the intensive care unit over the weekend.

“It’s, of course, very difficult to see. Our families love each other, and our children have grown up together. So, to watch my friend have fear for his son is very difficult to observe,” Mount said. “When your children grow up together, you think of them almost as your own children. So, knowing that he is hurt is very distressing.”

Carson Kimball’s older brother, Cole Kimball, spoke Monday from outside the hospital. He said his brother could feel from about his lower chest down Sunday.

“Now, it’s like 3 or 4 inches lower, so that’s great. We’re taking it day by day,” Cole Kimball said. “He’s doing good. He has a great attitude. I love him. He’s incredible.”

Mount said there is hope for Carson Kimball to recover from his injury.

“The hope is still there. There’s recovery to be had. What he is sensing now is not permanent. He can recover,” he said.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Kimball family with medical bills. It had raised more than $42,000, as of Monday night.

The Bremen community is also rallying around the family.

At the Kimball family’s business, Sips Soda in Carrollton, employees are voluntarily working long hours to collect donations and help raise money for Carson Kimball’s medical bills.

“Just seeing how the community has come together has been amazing,” Cole Kimball said. “Just the amount of support that they have given has been overwhelming – amazing for us to see just every little thing that they have done.”

The family says they’re asking for continued prayers as Carson Kimball undergoes surgeries and continues to recover.

“He’s always had a very strong attitude and faith in Jesus Christ, and he believe in miracles,” Cole Kimball said.

A metro Atlanta boutique is selling “Carson Strong” T-shirts to raise money for the family, and there will be a barbecue in Carson Kimball’s honor on Friday before the Bremen High homecoming game.
