A British hiker has been found dead in Majorca and another is still missing following a storm that’s flooded parts of the island.

The 32-year-old man’s body was discovered this morning shortly after a huge search for the pair got underway near a river called the Torrent de Pareis in the Tramuntana mountain range.

Police and firefighters are continuing to search for the second Brit.

A spokesman for a regional government-run emergency services coordination centre said early this morning: “A search is ongoing for two hikers missing since last night in the vicinity of Torrent de Pareis in Escorca.”

Shortly afterwards it was reported a body had been found near the spot where the search was launched.

Civil Guard officers and firefighters are understood to be involved in the ongoing operation and are said to have tried to triangulate the pair’s mobile phones after being given their numbers to locate them.

Parts of Majorca were affected by severe flooding following heavy rain yesterday. The storms are expected to worsen today.
The Tramontana mountain range has been one of the worst-affected areas.
