To honor Team Karen and Martin, organizers planned a flash mob for Wednesday (Sept 4, 2024) to give back to the community that supported their United Way of Southern West Virginia fundraiser.

PRINCETON, W.Va. – Here at the WVU Medicine-Princeton Community Hospital parking lot, an extraordinary event has unfolded.

It began as a simple fundraiser and quickly turned into a lively celebration of community spirit to support people and organizations in need.

This flash mob is part of the fundraising partnership representing Mercer County: Team Karen and Martin.

The choreographer for Princeton High School’s dance team made up the routine, team members joined in, and hospital staff make up the majority of this crowd.

Karen Bowling, the President and CEO of WVU Medicine PCH, says, “This supports the United Way of Southern West Virginia, and there are a multitude of agencies in Mercer County that get funding. It’s this ten-county region, but we have a lot of agencies that need those funds. The more money we raise, the more money they can disperse to agencies that deserve funding to Help people in need.”

In addition to the dance performances, the event attracted many people who followed their taste buds to the food trucks circled-up. It’s a very lively atmosphere. It’s a testament to how much this community cares about team Karen and Martin and the greater good.

WVVA anchor Martin Staunton says, “Somebody is struggling between do I have enough money to buy my medicine, buy my food, pay my rent? There’s a two-one-one number. United Way mans those phones that put people in touch with the help they need. So, we are having fun, but there’s a very serious foundation of what we’re doing here and it’s helping our communities.”

The fun isn’t stopping here.

There are three more fundraising events lined up before September 20th, including a pickleball tournament, a costume karaoke party, and a WVU vs. Pitt watch party right here in Princeton.

The easiest way to donate is just to do direct donation at the number 53555.
