As former public officials who have presided over, participated in, and observed countless public hearings — including confirmation hearings — we were appalled by the behavior of the New York City Council during Randy Mastro’s confirmation hearing for corporation counsel last week. The hearing was not just a disservice to Randy, whom we know to be a man of great character, a distinguished former public servant, and a nationally-renowned attorney; it was a disservice to the entire city.
