RICHLANDS, Va. – The Richlands Police Department announced a new program to the department that they say will help serve the community.

The Police Department said they have three employees with training in the medical field in degrees from Emergency Medical Technicians to a Paramedic who can give advanced life support to critically ill or injured people.

The Richlands Police Department said starting on September 5, those officers are now able to answer medical calls whenever they are needed. The Police Department said this move will help ease the pressure on existing medical crews, and will hopefully give quicker response times to emergency calls, and improve current services.

Their patrol vehicles have been certified as emergency medical response vehicles, and will be equipped with the tools needed to give life-saving measures.
