(Gray News) – Those who were hoping to use the Kroger app or reach out to the company via its website were experiencing frustration on Friday.

The grocery giant said on its social media that “all banner websites and mobile apps are experiencing an unexpected outage.”

Kroger said customers should try again later, as their technical teams are working to fix the issue. The statement also apologized for the inconvenience.

The company didn’t disclose the exact nature of the technical issue.

The grocery retailer based in Cincinnati has been fighting in court this week the Federal Trade Commission, which is seeking to block its $24.6 billion merger with Albertsons, the Associated Press reported.

The agency and the union leaders say the merger would harm competition in the grocery store retail space and lead to higher grocery prices.

But the CEOs of the companies, Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen and Albertsons CEO Vivek Sankaran, disputed that assertion Wednesday in Oregon’s U.S. District Court.

They argued that the merger would allow the companies to better compete with Walmart, Target and Amazon and would lead to lower prices for consumers.
