WELLINGTON, Kan. (KWCH/Gray News) – City officials in Wellington, Kansas, identified the employee who died on the job Wednesday as Wilson Price.

Price joined the Electric Distribution Department as an apprentice lineman in January 2024. The city said he died after coming in contact with an energized piece of equipment at the city’s power plant substation.

The city said Price was admired by his coworkers for his “incredible attitude and the joy he brought to every job site, a testament to his positive impact on the department.”

“Wilson had not been with the city long and was quickly becoming an outstanding lineman. His contributions to the reliability of our community’s electric system were invaluable. The entire city family deeply feels his loss,” Jason Newberry, assistant city manager for utilities said.

Officials said Price was part of a crew working on guarding equipment from wildlife at the city’s power plant Wednesday morning when the fatal accident occurred.

“Wilson came to work every day with enthusiasm, curiosity, and pride; the immeasurable grief of his loss is shared by his family, friends, and colleagues,” said city manager Jeff Porter.

Two other linemen at the work site were not hurt.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Price’s family to help cover funeral costs. He is described on the page as an “incredible, son, brother and friend to everyone.

“There will forever be a hole in all our hearts, as it was a privilege to know, love, and be loved by Wilson,” the page reads.
