A teen girl in Connecticut who threatened to “shoot up” her high school on social media has been arrested on charges of threatening and breach of peace, authorities said Saturday.

The incident was first reported to the Stamford Police Department around 2 p.m. on Friday when agents with the FBI informed local authorities that a “shooting threat” had been made via the popular app Snapchat.

The FBI soon determined the phone number associated with the message belonged to a Stamford resident. An “extensive investigation” allowed agents to determine the phone used to send the snap “was in the confines of Stamford High School.”

With that information, Stamford police detectives identified and located the student with the help of the school resource officer. The girl accused of making the threat was arrested a short time later.

A weapon was not recovered within the school, police said.

Investigators also spoke with the teen’s parents and searched two homes to which the student had “direct access,” but no weapons were found their either.

The student was transported to police headquarters where she was charged with first-degree threatening and first-degree breach of peace. The teen, who’s said to be cooperating with investigators, is expected back in court on Sept. 13.

According to police, the investigation is still ongoing and “pending additional information sought from Snapchat / Snap Inc.”
