BLACKSBURG, Va. – A sellout Lane Stadium saw the Virginia Tech Hokies hosting the Marshall Thundering Herd in the Hokies’ home opener. It would be the 14th time both schools have played, with Marshall taking the last matchup in 2023.
Both teams struggled in the first quarter until Jaylin Lane returned a punt 58 yards in for a TD to make it 7-0. However, near the end of the second quarter, with the Hokies leading 10-0, Marshall would get on the board with a rushing score from Ethan Payne to make it 10-7.
In the second half though, the Hokies would outscore the Herd 21-7, en route to a 31-14 win. Virginia Tech gets it first win of the season, while Marshall suffers its first loss.
