Drivers heading to Midtown Manhatan from New Jersey were seeing red Tuesday morning after a motorcycle crash in the center tube of the Lincoln Tunnel kicked off hours of delays.

A motorcyclist lost control in the tunnel shortly before 4 a.m. this morning, a Port Authority spokeswoman told the Daily News.

The motorcycle rider was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, the spokeswoman said.

At the time of the crash, the center tube was carrying two lanes of New Jersey-bound traffic while the north tube was closed for construction, leaving just the two lanes of the south tube to carry both directions of traffic ahead of the Tuesday morning rush hour.

Delays of up to 90 minutes were reported as police investigated the crash in the center tube, even as Port Authority crew reopened the north tube to traffic.

All three tubes of the tunnel were reopened to traffic by 9:15 a.m., with residual delays of up to 15 minutes reported late Tuesday morning.
