ALDERSON, W.Va. – The new Alderson elementary opened on Sept. 10, and incorporated some new elements and refurbished some old.

The new school incorporated the old Alderson High School into the new construction, including the gym floor being the original from the old high school building. The renovations have created a state-of-the-art facility with updated technology and learning environments, providing a safe and secure single building with a safe school entryway.

A separate bus drive, and a drop-off loop also help create an organized, more secure operation. Alderson Elementary serves about 230 students in grades pre-K- 5.

Principal Ed Niswander says the community really stepped up to make this happen.

“The community made this happen. They have just been great about the whole thing, so they gave up their community center. One of the neat things about it all is we have a section set up for all the old Alderson memorabilia,” Niswander said.

This new building is funded with $13.4 million from the state School Building Authority and $600,000 in local funding.
