Breakfast lovers, listen up…

Your favourite poached eggs on toast could be about to get a major upgrade, thanks to Jamie Oliver’s latest cooking tips. In his YouTube guide, ‘How to Make Perfect Poached Eggs – Three Ways’, the celebrity chef shares his secrets for achieving “super, silky, gorgeous eggs every time”.

Jamie’s top tip is straightforward: “The only way to poach the perfect egg is if you have really, really fresh eggs – end of story.”

If you’re wondering how to ensure your eggs are fresh, Jamie advises: “When it gets to shopping, don’t go to the front, go to the back and get your eggs.”

He explains that the freshest eggs are usually hidden at the back of the shelf. Once you’ve got the best eggs, Jamie suggests heating a pan of water until it’s bubbling, then taking it off the heat to let the bubbles subside, reports the Mirror.

He highlights the crucial difference between boiling and poaching with boiling being too harsh and likely to “smash the eggs all around”, whereas poaching requires a gentle simmer. Jamie recommends cracking the egg into a bowl first, then carefully transferring it to the pan, assuring cooks: “If you have lovely fresh eggs, you’re going to win most of the time.”

For enthusiasts of a “softish egg”, he suggests boiling them for roughly three minutes to achieve a consistency akin to “lovely, fresh, springy mozzarella”. Enjoy your perfectly cooked egg atop a splendid slice of toast.

To enhance the creaminess, toss in a bit of avocado. Alternatively, for a unique twist, lay on some slices of smoked salmon.
