A Wishaw woman who has been a fantastic friend to others through thick and thin is the latest recipient of the Wishaw Press’ Say it with Flowers Award.

Janis Speirs, a pet groomer, was nominated by 54-year-old Jackie O’Neill. The pair first met when Jackie took her dogs to her grooming parlour Perfect Pawz.

Jackie said: “Janis lost her mum a few years ago and then her dad died a couple of weeks back, but she is there for everyone else and she still has a smile on her face.

“She has always been there for her friends and family. She has a granddaughter and her daughter-in-law is expecting another baby in a couple of weeks time.

She has been a great friend with me throughout everything I have been through. She’s been my shoulder to cry on.

“I’ve known Janis about 10 years, I have dogs and the groomer I used to use stopped doing it but he put me on to Janis. She’s been grooming my dogs since then. My kids know her and her kids know mine. Janis is like an extended family.

“I just wanted to say thank you for everything she’s done for me and others. And it’s not just me, I think all of her clients really appreciate her. She’s one of those people who would do anything for anybody.

“She’s funny and can take a joke. She’s just such a lovely woman to know.

Mum-of-two Janis recently moved her business back into Wishaw town centre from Gowkthrapple, so she’s also had a bit of upheaval on that front.

When Jackie told us how good a friend Janis is to everyone she knows, we were delighted to present her with beautiful flowers courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

If you’d like to nominate someone special in the community then please email us at [email protected] with their name, the reason you think they deserve the award and a contact number for yourself to allow us to get more information and arrange for the flowers to be presented.
