A Scot has tragically died suddenly while on holiday in the Canary Islands.

The man, from West Lothian, is understood to have passed away at the weekend, while away in the sun with his mother.

It is believed the pair were staying at a resort in Fuerteventura- when the tragedy struck.

The exact cause of death is currently unknown, reports Edinburgh Live.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has confirmed today that they are supporting the family during this difficult time.

A FCDO spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Fuerteventura and are in contact with the local authorities.”

The FCDO can provide personalised advice for bereaved families including finding local funeral directors, lawyers abroad, or translators.

They can also contact the local authorities and provide information on how to request updates regarding a local investigation.

Fuerteventura is the second largest of Spain’s Canary Islands and is known for its white-sand beaches and year-round warmth, attracting a significant number of UK tourists at times when the climate is cooler back home.
