Skirting boards are notorious dust magnets in any home.

How often do you find yourself cleaning your skirting boards? It’s not exactly the most glamorous of household chores and often falls to the bottom of our cleaning priorities. Yet, considering their proximity to the floor – a part that we clean regularly – one would assume they’d get more attention than they actually do.

They seem to attract dust like no other area in the house, but cleaning them can be a real hassle. No one relishes the thought of getting down on hands and knees to scrub them with a damp cloth, and even when using the smaller attachments on your vacuum cleaner, they never quite shine as much as you’d hope.

But what if there was a method to effortlessly dust your skirting boards without bending over?

A TikTok user has revealed a “life-changing” trick for cleaning those tricky spots around your house with your vacuum cleaner, ensuring you pick up the dust effectively while leaving your home smelling great. Nicole posted a video on TikTok where she advises: “The single best hack I’ve learned in 2024 is this, and it’s going to change your life. Take your vacuum, whichever one you have, take this little attachment and put it on the end.

“Now take a dryer sheet and secure it onto the end with a hair tie, and then use this to clean your baseboards. Not only is this going to clean your baseboards but it’s going to leave a nice fresh smell.

“It also leaves this waxy film on your baseboards which helps prevent things from sticking in the future. This was so effective and I got so much dust and dirt off – this is the best cleaning hack I’ve ever used.”

In her video caption, Nicole confessed she “never wanted” to clean her skirting boards until she discovered this trick, making the task less daunting than ever before.

Dryer sheets, typically used to reduce static, soften clothes, and add fragrance during tumble drying, can be purchased for roughly £2.50 at Tesco for a pack of 40, or on Amazon where a “mega pack” of 408 Lenor sheets costs £34.10 – equating to just 8p per sheet.

Viewers of the video were equally impressed, with one agreeing that the hack was indeed “life-changing”.

One viewer exclaimed: “My mind is actually blown.” Another chimed in: “That’s pretty life-changing to be honest.” A third commented: “Genius! Thanks for sharing.”
