A cat who got lost on a camping trip has been reunited with his owners after he miraculously travelled 800 miles back home.

Benny and Susanne Anguiano were out camping at Yellowstone National Park in June with Rayne Beau the cat who got spooked and ran off into some dense trees.

Despite laying out all of his favourite treats the couple from Salinas, California, could not find him so had no choice but to return home.

To make matters worse, a Yellowstone employee told the couple a coyote had attacked a dog and there was not much hope for Rayne Beau.

Susanne told NBC: ‘We had to leave without him. That was the hardest day, because I felt like I was abandoning him.’

But she knew hope was not lost when she spotted a very special symbol up in the sky.

She told KSBW: ‘We were driving along and out of nowhere, these double rainbows appear, and it just knit it all together for me.’

Susanne had to wait 60 days but whatever magic power the double rainbow has seems to have worked because Rayne Beau is finally home.

The couple got a message from PetWatch, a pet microchip registry service, listing Rayne Beau’s microchip information and location.

He was at a shelter in Roseville, California, over 800 miles from Yellowstone where he had been lost.

He was found all alone on the street by a woman at the start of August who soon realised he was somebody’s pet and rushed him immediately to the shelter.

The couple have no idea how Rayne Beau managed to walk so far without getting killed or hurt.

It hasn’t come without its struggles for him though because before he was lost he weighed 14 pounds and he now weights eight pounds.

Susanne revealed: ‘He was really depleted. He probably didn’t have a lot of energy to even go further.’

Rayne Beau now spends his life playing with his twin sister, regaining his strength and taking well-deserved catnaps.

For Benny he hopes somebody out there knows how Raybe Beau managed to return home.

The couple have also encouraged people to make sure their pets are safe.

Susanne said: ‘Definitely microchip your cat or your pet and register the microchip online.

‘We would have never gotten them back had that not happened.’
