Councillors have conditionally granted planning permission for a dog day care facility in Cumbernauld despite several objections from residents.

The planning application, concerning Woodend Farm near Kilsyth, proposed extending existing kennels and a partial change of use in retrospect, allowing operation as a pet care business.

North Lanarkshire Council’s planning board unanimously agreed to grant the application, in line with recommendations from their officers, with several conditions in place which are designed to protect visual amenity, as well as limiting the number of dogs which can be present at any given time.

The development will see the number of kennels increased from 10 to 24 and the construction of a new reception area.

The council received 26 objections to the application, with the most common concern being possible issues with noise.

However, investigations at the site found levels to be within acceptable limits, with pollution control officers satisfied residential amenity would not be negatively impacted.
