Harry Potter enthusiasts have been left totally bewildered by one culinary artist’s attempt at crafting an ‘authentic’ Butterbeer, the fanciful concoction made famous by the spellbinding franchise. The sweet beverage has become a defining feature of the Harry Potter world over the years and is a fixture at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London.

Despite the recipe for the celebrated potion remaining a closely-guarded “top-secret”, its taste hints at a luscious blend of fizzy shortbread with butterscotch, composed of various syrups and cream soda, crowned with a dollop of frothy cream. Typically, fans can purchase the non-alcoholic version for £7.45 when visiting the studio in Leavesden.

Instagram confectioner @chanyunmi undertook the challenge to brew an authentic alcoholic variant of the fictional drink, opting for ingredients like beer, butter, brown sugar, salt, and whipped cream, as reported by the Daily Star.

The process began by pouring lager into a mug, followed by adding a substantial piece of butter. A spoonful of brown sugar and a dash of salt were next in line, reports the Mirror.

In order to dissolve the butter, they heated the mug in an oven set to 80C until it liquefied. The final touch was a hearty splash of whipped cream on top.

Meanwhile, @persephoneprincess22 offered a critique, observing: “You realize butter beer is butterscotch soda and they were thirteen years old lmao.”

Social media users were quick to express their bewilderment with the viral Butterbeer hack, with @madam.risa quipping: “On which step do we throw it away,” while Heineken’s official account chimed in: “Is there a ctrl+Z for our eyes?”

@windazzler added: “Yeah, let’s put you in Azkaban next.” Meanwhile, @thenerdyamazon jestingly suggested: “I think I’ll just Expecto Pa-trow it away..”

The renowned Butterbeer, purchasable from the official Harry Potter shop, boasts ingredients such as: carbonated water, sugar, glucose syrup, pear juice concentrate, vibrant natural flavours, acid (lactic acid), and authentically fermented ginger root extract (water, glucose syrup, ginger).
