Lucy Beaumont has hit back at a cruel comment about her appearance on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.
The comedian, 41, Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer on their weekly programme earlier this month, which saw guests including Pixie Lott and Strictly Come Dancing winner Ellie Leach.
However, one viewer was distracted from the dishes being served up and the celebrity guests, and instead took to X with a horrific comment about Lucy’s appearance.
They wrote: ‘@LucyABeaumont @SundayBrunchC4 ..always a face like a slapped a*** unless limelight is on you….my god!!! Cheer up! There are other guests on too!’
While plenty of fans jumped in to defend Lucy, the comedian later replied with a laughing face and a hilarious explanation on why she was late to the studio.
She said: ‘I live in the north and you have to be at the studio at 8.30am on a Sunday!!!
‘Also I walked the wrong way and a man asked if I’d seen his ‘Husky’ I started to help him and asked it’s name until I realised he was saying ‘house key’ but this made me late for hair and make up!’
‘The perfect response! Sending love from the North xx,’ fan @RPJNORTH replied to Lucy.
‘Love it Lucy,’ @found_courage said, while @MKT1882 wrote: ‘Lovely story but you obviously don’t have to justify yourself to anyone never mind someone who’s so needlessly offensive.’
The Taskmaster star joined Tim and Simon on the programme to talk about the final leg of her tour, and the stories she includes in her shows, laughing: ‘Comedy finds me!’
Speaking about the reaction to her performances, she went on: ‘I thought I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder years ago, and I thought I’m a Northern comic, I’ll go down better in the North, and that couldn’t be further from the truth.
‘One of the best gigs I’ve done on the tour was Guildford, it was really raucous, I did think I’d go down better in Hull, but it’s not been the same everywhere.
‘It’s fascinating because it’s always the same sort of laughs but all the audiences have got their own personality, sometimes they’re cheekier, it’s really unusual.’
Lucy has returned to the stage after her divorce from fellow comic Jon Richardson after nine years of marriage.
The Hullraisers writer married 8 Out of 10 Cats star John in 2015, and welcomed their daughter Elsie the following year.
In April, they announced in a joint statement:‘After 9 years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated.
‘We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.
‘As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being. We will be making no further comment.’
The news of their separation came just days after a new series of their ‘at home mockumentary’ Meet The Richardsons, which followed the chaos of their marital lives.
During her career, Lucy has also featured on a number of comedy panel shows including Would I Lie To You?, The Last Leg and Have I Got News For You.
