HINTON, W.Va. – An outdoor burning ban is now in effect for Summers County.
County Commissioners met in an emergency meeting this afternoon and voted to issue a proclamation initiating the ban because of the extended drought.
The proclamation said Summers County is currently threatened by drought conditions causing an increased high risk for wildland and brush fires.
Summers has joined many counties in the state, especially those in central and northern parts of the state, in issuing burning bans since much of the state remains in an extreme drought situation.
The proclamation says that all public offices and employees of Summers County are directed to exercise diligence in the discharge of their duties required of them during the ban.
It also says:
“All citizens are called upon and directed to comply with necessary measures, to cooperate with public officials and first responders in executing emergency operational plans, and to obey and comply with the lawful direction of properly identified officers.”
