Standing at a towering 6ft 5ins, Miyuki Syiama is used to turning heads.
The model, from Ohio, has landed plenty of attention and modelling deals thanks to her amazingly long legs. But recently, she shared some drawbacks that come with being so tall.
Despite excelling in sports such as basketball and volleyball thanks to her height, Miyuki admits to facing daily challenges. And clothing is a big issue!
Miyuki faces the ultimate fashion dilemma – finding a wedding dress that fits her super long legs. Her height, with legs making up over two-thirds of her body, has always made shopping a challenge, and now it’s impacting her search for the perfect bridal gown.
She finds that most dresses fall well above her ankles. What’s more, she’s often approached by strangers curious about her height and everyday tasks like shopping can feel “almost impossible”.
Miyuki’s tall genes come from her parents – her father stands at 6ft 7ins and her mother at approximately 6ft 3ins. But that doesn’t mean she’s fully used to being so lofty.
She commented: “I have a lot of problems with my height, I hit my head basically every single day… I was pretty shy about my height – everybody’s at normal height and I’m just like a mountain.”
She’s been dubbed “chop stick” and “giraffe”, to which she responded, “I hate it,” adding, “I am so close to the sky.”
Despite these challenges, Miyuki is now embracing her height more than ever. She often resorts to creating her own clothes and has even launched her own website.
As well as this, has found a man who loves her height. Her 6ft 3ins partner Trevor gushed: “I think she is beautiful and I love everything about her”.
The pair tied the knot during the Covid-19 pandemic, but are now planning a grand celebration with their loved ones. Miyuki confesses that she might choose a dress that is short in the front and long at the back to tackle the wedding dress length issue.
She hopes that sharing her story will inspire others. Miyuki concluded: “I feel it [her height] is my gift. Don’t care what people think about you, just be yourself.”
