Two people have been injured after a toaster caught fire in the classroom of West Lothian primary school.
Two fire engines raced to Simpson Primary School in Bathgate just before 3pm this afternoon after reports a toaster had caught fire.
No pupils were harmed and two staff members were treated for minor injuries following the incident.
Parents watched on as fire crews descended and had to wait to an extra 20 minutes before being allowed to collect kids.
One said: “I’m not sure when exactly the fire happened but everyone seemed to handle it well. There were a few kids in tears though.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.53pm on Monday, September 23 to reports of a fire within a classroom at Simpson Primary School in Bathgate.
“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene and firefighters found that a toaster alight had been extinguished prior to their arrival.
“Two casualties were treated for minor injuries and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “A small fire broke out at Simpson Primary School in Bathgate on Monday, 23 September 2024.
“All staff and pupils were safely evacuated and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended. No pupils were harmed and two staff members were treated for minor injuries following the incident.
“The classroom will remain out of use, while the damage caused by the smoke is assessed.”
