It can sometimes feel like the only tablet on the market is Apple’s iPad, so huge is the hype around it. That’s not the case, though, and there are now many alternatives that undercut it massively on price offering similar features if you’re willing to switch operating systems.

A perfect example of that is subject to a big sale on Amazon right now. You can grab the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ for £214 in either its navy or silver versions, down from its full price of £289. That’s an impressive £75 saving, and makes the tablet genuinely affordable, despite some impressive specs.

Despite the ‘9’ in its name, this is an 11-inch tablet – a size that makes it perfect for watching movies or TV when you’re curled up in bed or on the sofa, but also ideal for reading the web or doing some online shopping. Its display has a pin-sharp resolution of 1920 x 1200, and with 128GB of storage, it has plenty of space for photos and other files, including downloaded movies for travel. Since it runs on Android, you also have access to almost countless apps and services that will work perfectly on it.

The deal applies to the navy and silver version with 128GB storage. You can also get it in graphite, as well as models with 64GB storage, but they will only save you £6 for half the storage capacity. And this is all for the A9+ – the more sophisticated and bigger version of the A9, which retails for less.

Over 450 people have left reviews behind themselves after buying the tablet, with their ratings averaging out at an impressive 4.6 stars. One happy customer wrote: “Great device for a good price. The sound is really good and found it to be quick and easy to use. I’m not a tech person at all and mainly use my phone for everything. This is perfect for my needs.”

Another user said: “Absolutely amazing well pleased with it. Good build and easy to use.” A third added to this: “Powerful enough to play games on and the battery life seems better than the last generation. The speakers are better positioned so it also sounds better too. Built-in storage being much bigger helps as everything seems to take more space these days.”

Some others have been more critical, though, with one customer critiquing the keyboard, saying: “It is not responsive and several letters have to be practically hit.” Another griped: “The only downside is the wire to charge is way too short”.

If you fancy some other tablet options to compare it to, a good choice is the Amazon Fire HD 10, which costs £149.99 from Currys and is a similar size and shape. Alternatively, you could check out Apple’s latest devices – the brand’s basic iPad starts from £349, making it a much more premium choice.

To grab a massive saving and get a well-made tablet that looks far more expensive than it is, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ looks a clear winner right now.
