Vernon Kay was forced to miss his Radio 2 show this morning under doctor’s orders.

The star was replaced by fellow radio presenter Gaby Roslin, 60, who stepped in at the last minute for Tuesday’s stint. Vernon took to Instagram to tell fans he was unable to make work today as he’s suffering from a sore throat which is affecting his voice.

Gaby announced the change in line-up to listeners at the top of the mid-morning show as she said: “Gaby in for Vernon Kay. It’s a joy to be here. Vernon, I hope your throat is feeling better.

“I was listening yesterday, I love the show but did worry about your throat. So take it easy, no talking today.”

Addressing fans on his Instastories, Family Fortunes host Vernon, 50, said: “Morning everyone, under doctors orders I’m resting my voice.

“It should be alright tomorrow, but I’m going to slide away from the microphone this morning and just rest the vocal cords. They’re a bit strained allegedly, very hoarse.”

He then confirmed he will be “back tomorrow” despite his health problems.

The latest shakeup on the Radio 2 airwaves comes as breakfast show host Zoe Ball made her return after six weeks of absence.

Zoe was back to work on Monday after she vanished from her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show without warning.

The popular radio presenter, spoke to fans at the top of the show at 6.30am. She said: “Morning gorgeous people it’s me Zoe the happy wanderer. I’ve wandered back. How was your Brat summer? Was it marvellous? We did that in the 90s it was called something different then.

“I hope you’ve been enjoying some of the gorgeous sunsets over the last few weeks. It’s a tad soggy our end this morning. Take it easy out on the road,” she added.

The presenter then said thanks to ‘dear friend’ Scott Mills for looking after the show when she was off.

The broadcaster had not been on the The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show since she briefly returned to hosting on August 8, following a summer break.

Yesterday we reported she expressed concern for her colleague Vernon after he he came on air on Monday with a concerning croaky voice.

As Zoe was wrapping up her breakfast show, she greeted her co-star as he was about to kick off his programme, but couldn’t help notice that he sounded a bit off.

Vernon then shared that he had woken up with a “hideous” throat issue but was determined to push through his morning radio stint, to which she remarked that he sounded “terrible” and humorously suggested “gargling salts”.

He responded: “Aw, I know, I apologise. I’m a bit groggy this morning. I’ve woken up with a hideous throat. It’s gonna be more music, less chat.”

During the show, Vernon shared that a listener named Kirsty sent him well wishes and urged him to invite listeners to send in voice notes to “fill the whole show”.

She also wished him “healing vibes” and “big hugs”, prompting Vernon to express his gratitude and provide a contact number for listeners to send their messages.
