The Great British Bake Off is set to return to our screens tonight, and there’s already buzz about the star-studded line-up that might grace the show.
The team, including judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, alongside presenters Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond, were surprised by two high-profile celebrities who are fans of the show.
Speaking to Good Morning Britain’s entertainment reporter Richard Arnold, Noel and Paul shared an amusing anecdote about a surprise visit from a famous couple to their iconic baking tent.
It turns out that while Ryan Reynolds was filming for his Deadpool sequel near the Channel 4 series’ location, he inadvertently wandered into a shot. Initially, producers sought to remove what they thought was an impersonator, only to discover it was indeed the actor himself.
Upon realising his blunder, Reynolds quickly called his wife, actress Blake Lively, who eagerly rushed over to the set to meet the Bake Off team, reports the Mirror.
During the conversation with Richard, Noel recounted the humorous incident, revealing: “I tell you what was really funny, we were about to film something and somebody said ‘There’s a guy out there dressed as Wolverine out there can we get him out of the shot’. And then they went ‘I think that’s Wolverine’ and it was Deadpool.”
Noel clarified with a laugh: “It was Ryan Reynolds.”
Paul confirmed the story, adding that the celebrity couple are indeed big fans of the show.
Spilling the beans to Richard, he revealed: “Ryan was over the moon he did a photograph with Prue [Leith] and I outside, and then he phoned up his wife Blake [Lively], who I zoom-called and said ‘hello’ and it just went black.”
Paul added: “I said what’s going on and he said, ‘she’s on her way down will you please stay here’ and I went ‘Yeah of course’.”
Like many fans of the show, interviewee Richard wanted to know if we could expect the pair to take part in the future. He quizzed: “Such is the success of this show, do you think you could tempt them to do the celebrity version, perhaps?”
Paul went on to reveal that it wasn’t exactly off the cards and that he is still trying to get a signup. He explained: “I tried with Blake, I’m still trying to convince her to come.
“But I think last week I sent her another text saying ‘You’ve got to do it’. So hopefully one day we can get them in the tent.”
The Great British Bake Off will be back on screens on Channel 4, from 8pm, tonight.
