Netflix is releasing a feature adaptation based on Ruth Ware’s bestselling mystery The Woman in Cabin 10, with Pirates of the Caribbean actress Keira Knightley starring in the lead role.

Also joining the cast are Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham and Memento’s Guy Pearce, as they gear up to film a brand-new mystery for the streaming platform.

Other famous actors joining the already-glittering cast include Skins actress Kaya Scodelario, The Gentlemen’s Daniel Ings, Sherwood star David Morrissey and The Morning Show’s Mbatha-Raw.

David Ajala, Art Malik, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Gitte Witt, Christopher Rygh and Pail Kaye are also set to join the impressive ensemble.

The movie is directed by Simon Stone, who has previously enjoyed success with Netflix before. He was behind the critically acclaimed historical drama The Dig, starring Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes and Lily James.

The Woman in Cabin 10 follows a travel journalist, played by Knightley, who is sent to cover a story on a luxury yacht when she is woken up in the middle of the night by screams.

Netflix’s Tudum explains: “While on a luxury cruise for a travel assignment, a journalist witnesses a passenger tossed overboard late one night, only to be told that she must have dreamed it, as all passengers are accounted for.

“Despite not being believed by anyone onboard, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger.”

A synopsis of the book from Simon & Schuster teases: “At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant.

“[But] Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem?

“All passengers remain accounted for — and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong.”

The nerve-wracking thriller is produced by Sister and Debra Hayward, with Sister’s Ilda Diffley executive producing.

Meanwhile, the script comes from the minds of Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse of Snake Eyes fame.
