Noel Fielding’s career has seen him jump between comedy and working on one of the most comforting shows on TV.
The 51-year-old started his career in the public eye performing stand up comedy in the late 1990s, during which time he met Mighty Boosh collaborator Julian Barratt.
Their idea became a radio show in 2001, before going to be commissioned as a TV series and then a stage show.
During the 2000s, Noel also appeared in shows including Nathan Barley, The IT Crowd, AD/BC: A Rock Opera, and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.
He’s also been a guest on Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Richard Ayoade’s Travel Man series and in 2017 signed up to co-host The Great British Bake Off, which he currently fronts alongside This Morning star Alison Hammond.
But away from the screens what do we know about Noel, whose partner is radio DJ Lliana Bird, with whom he shares two children.
Noel was previously in a relationship with Robots in Disguise lead vocalist Dee Plume, who made minor appearances in The Mighty Boosh and in its live adaptations.
In 2010 he then began dating radio DJ Lliana Bird, who previously hosted a weekly show with Radio X.
She is also an author who has released the book The Mice Who Sing For Sex – a non-fiction book on all things bizarre and wonderful from the world of science – and the children’s book Baboo The Unusual Bee.
Liliana, 42, also has her own production company called Bird & Be and is the co-founder of the charities Choose Love and The Kindly Collective, which funds and supports grassroots charitable projects for women, kids and animals.
The couple reportedly met after she appeared in several episodes of The Mighty Boosh in 2010 and later had a brief cameo in Noel’s series Luxury Comedy as ‘Lady in car’ in 2014.
The couple are not married, but in 2018 announced they were expecting their first child together.
The couple have two daughters together; Dali – who was born in April 2018 and named after Noel’s favourite artist Salvador Dali and Iggy, who was born in August 2020.
Although they keep their children out of the public eye and off social media, Lliana does sometimes share photos of her eldest daughter’s artworks online.
Last year she also shared an insight into their home life.
Reminiscing about the births of her children and becoming a parent, Lliana spoke about how ‘magical’ a father Noel had become since welcoming their daughters.
‘He kind of makes the silliest little moments, he makes having breakfast a real moment,’ she said on the Happy Mum Happy Baby with Giovanna Fletcher podcast.
‘I think I’ve just really leaned into that and just going like, “This is amazing. We’re getting to have porridge and it’s funny, and it’s fun. And we’re wearing silly hats, and we’re dancing. And that’s okay.”‘
‘Maybe someone else’s kids are going to have a few more spoonfuls of porridge because it’s going to be quicker, they’re eating it properly, and digesting it properly. But, you know, my kids are having a lot of fun.’
