A man is due in court accused of murdering a Glasgow-born who died following an alleged attack in England.
George Ness has been charged in connection with the murder of 63-year-old John Smyth who recently relocated to Tyneside from Derby, reports Chronicle Live.
The 41-year-old of Avon Avenue in North Shields is due to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates Court today.
Smyth was pronounced dead in hospital after emergency services rushed to the scene on Holly Avenue in Wallsend on Sunday morning, September 22.
A 34-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of murder has now been released with no further action.
Det Chief Insp Matt Steel, from Northumbria Police, said: “Our thoughts remain firmly with John’s family and loved ones following their incredibly tragic loss.
“We continue to offer any support they need, and ask that their privacy is respected as they attempt to process the events of the last 36 hours.”
