There are a number of things that can make us irritated while driving.
If you’re a frequent driver, then you’ll probably have experienced road rage at least once in your life. Perhaps somebody cut you off, or you’re following the speed limit and they’ve driven right up behind you in an effort to try and make you go faster to keep the gap between your vehicles.
But one man on social media has said he was confronted by an angry motorist for a reason that wasn’t at all tied to his own driving skills. Instead, she was simply outraged at the colour of his car – because she believed he had “copied” hers.
In a post on Reddit, the man claimed he was sitting in his car at a traffic light when the woman pulled up alongside him and began “yelling” at him over the colour of his 2019 Ford Ranger.
The man explained the colour of his car is officially called Hot Chilli Pepper Red and is a “rare” shade that costs an extra $750 (£567) to have painted on the car. The woman was furious when she saw his vehicle because her car is the same colour – and she believed he must have been “copying” her.
He wrote: “According to her it was a limited edition colour that was exclusive to a certain package in the Bronco that year and I was copying her. She accused me of painting my truck to copy her car and demanded – and she really hit the high notes on the word ‘demand’ – that I change it back.
“All of this happened at a stop light and I just sat there watching this grown-a** adult lose her ever-loving-s**t at me over the colour of our cars. Only later did it occur to me that I should have recorded it.”
The man said there are around 10 or 12 different colours that you can have your car painted by Ford, so the shade would never have been “unique” to the woman – and he wouldn’t be the only person to share the shade either. He also joked that because his car was a 2019 vehicle and hers was a 2021, if anything, she was copying him.
Commenters on the post also poked fun at the woman’s outburst, while some others said they’d even had similar experiences with people over the colour of their car.
One person said: “Some people are just so certain that the world revolves around them and them alone. I mean, how DARE you have a car the same colour?!”
Another added: “I have a custom colour wrap on my car and a few months after I got it wrapped a sedan of a different model but the same wrap colour pulled in front of me in traffic before dropping to the right lane from me and slowing down to laugh and wave and thumbs up.”
