One of cinema’s most iconic masterpieces is now available to stream for free on Netflix for subscribers.
Originally hitting UK cinemas back on 21 October 1994, the movie boasts an astounding array of Hollywood talent.
The film’s 30th-anniversary marks a perfect occasion for fans to dive back into its gripping, darkly comic and intricate crime narrative.
Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, and Ving Rhames are just a few of the stars that make it an essential watch for any film enthusiast.
The movie in question is none other than Quentin Tarantino’s revered Pulp Fiction, reports the Express.
Navigating through several intertwined plots, the core of the story charts hitmen Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega (played by Jackson and Travolta), as they set out to recover a briefcase for gangster Marsellus Wallace (portrayed by Rhames).
Further entangling the tale is Vega’s hair-raising ordeal with Mafia boss Wallace’s spouse Mia (Thurman) and boxer Butch Coolidge’s (Willis) fateful decision to defy the crime lord after taking victory in a rigged boxing match.
Pulp Fiction consistently makes its appearance on compilations of the all-time best films and has often been hailed as a monumental achievement by critics and cinema historians alike.
Presently, it occupies the eighth position on IMDb’s Top 250 Movies list, as chosen by user votes.
Back in 2008, Entertainment Weekly named it the best film since 1983, placing it higher than masterpieces like The Lord of the Rings saga, Titanic, and Blue Velvet.
On its 20th anniversary, The Guardians Peter Bradshaw lauded it as a mesmeric thriller still breathtaking 20 years on.
“The dialogue, the soundtrack, the sheer directionless excitement – Tarantino’s thunderclap of a thriller is just as brilliant as it was two decades ago,” he penned in his glowing five-star critique.
Empire’s Ian Freer also awarded it top marks at the time of its release, commenting: “Pulp’s witty writing, pop culture-surfing, gleeful amorality, cult tuneology and hyperkinetic energy has redefined the crime genre for the foreseeable future.”
Film aficionados have not stopped lauding Pulp Fiction over the past three decades, solidifying its iconic status as a pinnacle of contemporary crime cinema.
A fan expressed on Reddit: “I rewatched Pulp Fiction today, it’s still the greatest movie I have ever seen even when rewatching.”
And as recently as this year, someone posted: “Pulp Fiction is the greatest movie of the past 50 years. It did everything to near perfection.
Every second of this film was thought out. And it shows. What’s better? Seriously? It does everything so well. Not a single shot was just to get it over with. Everything mattered!”
Pulp Fiction is available to stream on Netflix.
