Rangers boss Philippe Clement should be targeted by Anderlecht as they search for a new manager, according to former Belgium international Nordin Jbari.

The Brussels club are looking for a new boss after sacking Danish coach Brian Riemer last week following a disappointing start to the season. Reports in Belgium have linked Clement to the role and he’s been named as one of the favourites, alongside former Antwerp boss Mark van Bommel who left the club in the summer.

Clement – who only signed a contract extension at Rangers in August to remain at Ibrox Stadium until 2028 – both played for and managed Anderlecht’s rivals Club Brugge during his career which could be viewed as a problem by their fans. However, ex-Anderlecht and Belgium striker Jbari turned TV pundit reckons that shouldn’t be a barrier to Anderlecht approaching Rangers.

He said: “Philippe Clement likes to play modern, attacking football. He would be a very interesting option, even though he used to play for and manage Club Brugge. There’s obviously a financial aspect to it too because he’s at Rangers and whether he would even consider a move to Anderlecht. But he’s definitely an option for Anderlecht alongside van Bommel.”
