Police are treating two cars being set alight as wilful fire-raising following the late night incident in Stonehouse.

The emergency services were called to the blaze on Glenburn Avenue, near Newfield Primary School, just after 11pm on Sunday night.

There were no reports of casualties. However, both vehicles were badly damaged.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.12pm on Sunday, August 23, to reports of two vehicles well alight on Glenburn Avenue in Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliances to the scene.

“There were no casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Around 11.35pm on Sunday, September 22, officers received a report of two vehicles on fire on Glenburn Avenue, Stonehouse.

“The fires are being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
